I love that title and I have this saying I'm left handed what's your superpower? with a lightening bolt on my circuit. It reminds me how special i am (well anyway My Mom always told me I was special (truthfully I don't think it was because I was a lefty).Personally I don't feel that being a "southpaw" is a superpower at times it can be frustrating, take for example learning to knit or crochet, I can not learn it, i bought books, looked at Utube videos (for left handers), my mom (who was right handed) tried to teach me, still no luck. Someone once told me that the person who's teaching you should stand behind me to show me how to do it. When I started to do crafts, I really wanted to knit, so I saw the Loom in Michaels and low and behold I can do that. I've knitted numbers of hats, scarves, lots and lots of ruffled scarves and guess what i can also use needles to do the ruffled scarves. I've also knitted blankets, shawls, crowles, slippers, fingerless gloves. Check out this website and shop for scarves and hats. Let me know if you find something. Just remember they are made by a left-handed loom knitter.
Generally speaking, being left-handed is about being more comfortable using my left hand to write. I seen an image that says "I do not have bad writing I have my own font" That is exactly me, my handwriting is the worst. But just so you know using your left hand isn't a physical malfunction or "just another way to be different", it has to do with how the right and left sides of the brain relate to one another. They now say that their is clear differences between the way left-handed and right-handed people. About 15 person of people are left-handed, but studies do vary on this number partly because because the number varies from culture to culture, and partly cause of the lack of a definition of left handedness. And of course there are those that believe a person who used their left hand to write but their right side for everything else--their right eye to look through a camera lens and their right foot to kick a ball to be left handed while others do not.
Being left handed does seem to run in families, but it also appears in families where no member is left-handed. Along standing misconception is that left handed people are not any clumsier than right handed people but we do have trouble manipulating items that are made for right handed use, such as can openers or scissors but we can manage better to attempt to use similar items made for left-handed people.
Also, left-handed people do not die sooner than right-handed people, this myth came out a 1991 study that has since been proven wrong.
Disadvantages of being left-handed is that most items --from door handles to drinking fountains--are geared toward righties. Lefty's had to also deal with the
social stigma attached to being left-handed, although this has diminished greatly in modern times.
But Lefties do have advantages such as we tend to be more athletically inclines and to think more quickly. According to a study by Dr. Alan Searleman of St. Lawrence University in New York, "true" left-handed people--those who favor their whole left side for physical activities--have twice the problem-solving skills and a higher I.Q. than right-handed people. People who use their left hand to write but favor their right side in everything else scored the same as "true" right-handed
people.
